Terms and Conditions
Last updated 10 September 2026. Version 2026-09-10.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Commodity.codes (the “Service”) is provided by Klipx Limited (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17221685, with its registered office at 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. You can contact us at help@commodity.codes.
These terms apply to everyone who uses the Service, whether or not they create an account. By using the Service, or by ticking the acceptance box when you create an account, you agree to them. If you use the Service on behalf of a business, you confirm that you have authority to bind that business, and “you” includes it.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data and forms part of these terms.
2. What the Service is, and what it is not
The Service helps you find a 10-digit UK commodity (tariff) code from a plain-English description of goods. It searches a copy of the UK Integrated Online Tariff published by HM Revenue & Customs, ranks the closest entries, and uses artificial intelligence (“AI”) to ask clarifying questions and suggest a single code. Every suggestion links to the corresponding entry on the official tariff website.
The Service is a research and guidance tool. It is not:
- customs, tax, legal or other professional advice;
- an official ruling, determination or classification by HMRC or any other authority;
- a substitute for the official UK Integrated Online Tariff, which is the only authoritative source; or
- a customs agent, broker or declarant acting on your behalf.
If you need certainty about a classification, HMRC offers a formal process for obtaining a binding decision (an Advance Tariff Ruling). The Service does not provide, apply for or replace such a ruling.
3. Accuracy, artificial intelligence and your responsibility
Suggestions are generated automatically and may be wrong. The AI models and search methods we use can misread a description, misunderstand an answer, miss a relevant rule, rely on tariff data that has since changed, or simply produce an incorrect result. They can also state a result with confidence when it is wrong. The tariff itself changes over time, and our copy may lag behind the official version.
You agree that:
- you will check any code suggested by the Service against the official UK Integrated Online Tariff, including its notes, rules and any duty or measures, before relying on it;
- you will seek advice from a qualified customs professional or from HMRC where the classification is complex, high-value or uncertain;
- the decision to use a particular code on a customs declaration, invoice, marketplace listing or any other document is yours alone, and you are responsible for it and for its consequences; and
- the confidence figures and explanations shown are estimates produced by software, not assurances.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that any suggestion is accurate, complete, current or fit for your purpose, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
4. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- You must give accurate details and keep them up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your password and any second-factor codes confidential, and for everything done through your account. Tell us at once at help@commodity.codes if you believe it has been compromised.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used abusively or unlawfully, or that has been inactive for more than 24 months, after giving reasonable notice where practicable.
5. Credits, prices and payment
A guided search (one where the Service asks questions and suggests a code) uses one credit. The candidate list shown before you sign in does not use a credit. Credits are bought in packs, paid for in advance through our payment provider, Stripe. The price of each pack, including any VAT, is shown before you pay.
- Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred to another account, and are not refundable except as set out here or as required by law.
- If the automated step of a guided search fails before you receive any question or suggestion, the credit is returned to your balance automatically.
- Credits do not expire while your account remains open. If we withdraw the Service, we will refund the value of any unused credits.
- We may change pack prices at any time. Changes do not affect credits you have already bought.
If you are a consumer (buying for purposes wholly or mainly outside your trade, business or profession), you have the right to cancel a credit purchase within 14 days of buying it and receive a refund for any credits you have not used. By using a credit within that period you ask us to start supplying the service immediately and acknowledge that the credit used is no longer refundable. To cancel, email help@commodity.codes from the address on your account.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service for anything unlawful, or to describe goods you know to be misdeclared;
- use scripts, bots, scrapers or other automated means to access the Service, or submit searches in bulk, except through an interface we expressly provide for that purpose;
- attempt to extract, reverse-engineer or interfere with our software, prompts, models, security or rate limits;
- share an account, or resell or sublicense access to the Service; or
- submit content that is offensive, infringes anyone’s rights, or contains someone else’s personal data without authority.
7. Intellectual property and tariff data
The Service, its software, design and content are owned by Klipx Limited or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may use the Service for your own business or personal purposes and may copy individual codes and descriptions you obtain from it. You may not otherwise copy, republish or exploit the Service or its content.
Tariff data is Crown copyright, reproduced from the UK Integrated Online Tariff, and contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Descriptions you type remain yours; you grant us a licence to process them in order to provide, secure and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Availability and changes to the Service
We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the Service at any time, including the AI models and data sources we use, and we may impose limits on usage to keep the Service secure and available for everyone. We do not guarantee any particular level of availability. We will try to give reasonable notice of changes that significantly affect you.
9. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to receive a service performed with reasonable care and skill and digital content that is of satisfactory quality.
Subject to the paragraph above:
- We are not liable for the consequences of relying on a suggestion. This includes, without limitation, customs duty, import VAT, excise, anti-dumping or other charges assessed or reassessed; penalties, fines, interest or surcharges; seizure, detention, delay or rejection of goods; costs of re-declaration or re-export; and claims by customers, carriers, agents or authorities that arise because a code suggested by the Service was incorrect, incomplete or out of date.
- We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, goodwill, anticipated savings or data, however arising.
- We are not liable for failures of third-party services we depend on, including payment processing, hosting, AI model providers, email delivery and the official tariff website, or for events outside our reasonable control.
- If you use the Service for business purposes, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for credits in that period, or £100 if greater.
10. Business users: indemnity
If you use the Service for business purposes, you will compensate us for any loss, liability, cost or claim we suffer because of your breach of these terms or your use of any code or information obtained from the Service in a customs declaration, listing or other document.
11. Ending this agreement
You may stop using the Service at any time and may ask us to delete your account by emailing help@commodity.codes. Sections 3, 7, 9, 10 and 13 continue to apply after the agreement ends.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in the Service. The version and date appear at the top of this page. For material changes we will notify account holders by email or by a notice in the Service before they take effect, and may ask you to accept the new version. If you do not agree to a change you should stop using the Service.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. These terms are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
